“Lord, You have established a testimony in Your Word, which You command us to teach to our youth, that the next generation might know Your glorious deeds, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget Your works, but keep Your commandments. Father, help us to disciple our youth so that their hearts will not be stubborn and rebellious, but will be steadfast and faithful to the Lord (Psalm 78:5-9).”
In the heart of this prayer, we praise God for the gift of teenagers and prioritize their care and discipleship. Our goal is for the youth at First Baptist Church of Litchfield for them to surpass us in the zeal to joyfully advance the kingdom of God by making much of Jesus in the church, community, and home. We champion with parents to nurture the faith of the next generation by providing an atmosphere where Christ is made much of in Word, Worship, Prayer, and Service.
To disciple our youth, we provide Sunday School classes, Sunday evening fellowship, Wednesday night bible study, special activities, and events to shepherd these students through teaching, worship, and small group interaction. We aim to come alongside parents and equip them as they, by God’s grace, train their youth’s hearts to make much of Jesus.
Sunday School (9am-10am)
For Sunday School, in grades 7-12, we use the Gospel Project Curriculum, which teaches a Christ-centered chronological bible study that captures the hearts of youth with big truths. Along with the adult classes, the youth are walking through the entire Bible in three years, seeing God’s rescue plan to save his people from sin and death through Jesus Christ.
Sunday Evening (6 pm-7: 30 pm)
For Sunday night discipleship, in grades 7-12, we gather the youth to build community through fellowship, enjoy one another through fun activities and pursue the spiritual disciplines of prayer, study, outreach, memorizing scripture, and worship.
Wednesday Night Bible Study (6 pm-8 pm)
On Wednesday night, our youth gather to study God’s word in depth. There is a time for socializing thirty minutes before the lesson and thirty minutes after the lesson. For the remaining time, the youth are studying God’s word through an inductive study lesson also provided by Children Desiring God. Our Youth will study lessons such as:
- Teach Me Your Way
A Study for Youth on Surrender to Jesus and Submission to His Way
- Abiding in Jesus
A Study for Youth on Trusting Jesus and Encouraging Others
- Your Word Is Truth
A Study for Youth on Seeing All of Life Through the Truth of Scripture
- Rejoicing in God’s Good Design
A Study for Youth on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
- Open My Eyes
A Study for Youth on Studying the Bible
